Popular actress and singer Uhm Jung-hwa held a launch ceremony for her new fashion lingerie line at the Bistro D August 24 in southern Seoul.

The style star plans to simultaneously launch some 70 online and offline lingerie stores nationwide. The name of her online brand is ‘Zoom in New York’ and her offline brand, ‘Corner Suite.’

Uhm said what makes her lingerie line stand out is originality and sexuality.

She went on to explain that she wanted women to feel luxuriously feminine by making lingerie that exuded confidence and sex appeal.

I really like this collection from Ascension Paris Lingerie (France). Not widely known but it looks awesome and they position themselves as a “The first affordable French lingerie brand” – which is true, they are really affordable comparing to other European lingerie brands. Branded the “brassiere” by fashion bible Vogue in 1907, the invention has undergone many changes from the flat-chested flappers of the 1920s, to bra-burning ceremonies of the ’60s and Madonna’s cone shaped bustiers of the ’80s.

Stylist Lisa Cimmino said women were spoilt for choice when it came to the support staple.

“The bra is a foundation piece in any women’s wardrobe. We would be lost without them,” she said.

“I mean, 100 years on they are making our busts bigger or smaller, sexier or sportier.”

Australian designers are cashing in on the popularity of the bra, with such labels as Sass and Bide and Willow showcasing luxurious lingerie lines this season.

“It’s a huge business. Just look at the celebrity endorsements as well as stars like Delta, Kylie and Elle who all have their own labels,” Ms Cimmino said.

Do women know how to wear a bra correctly?

“You should be having your bra fitted every 12 months and have at least three bras to choose from,” Ms Cimmino said.

“Always consider what bra is best when you are getting dressed as they can really make or break an outfit.” Source

New York - It’s the foundation of every woman’s wardrobe, but lingerie designers, like their product, aren’t as visible as their clothing designer counterparts.

That’s why Ben Yedder, who publishes intimate apparel industry magazine Contours, established the Contours International Lingerie Awards (CILA) last year in order to recognize the creative efforts and technological advances of the top lingerie companies and designers in the U.S. and abroad.

On Monday night in the Grand Ballroom of New York’s Waldorf Astoria hotel, the 2nd annual CILA awards, sponsored by the U.S. Intimate Apparel Council, took place culminating in a fashion show featuring the finalists in 19 categories, who ranged from familiar brands like Wacoal and Le Mystere to smaller speciality lines like Marlies Dekker and maternity intimates label Larrivo.

This year more than 80 designers from over eight countries entered the competition, with the winners selected by an independent panel of industry members who included buyers, designers and consumers.

Some companies, like Le Mystere, who was last year’s “Best T-Shirt Bra,” were finalists in multiple categories.

“I thought we had the best shot at winning ‘Best Innovative,’ because what we have done there is come up with a bra specifically for augmented women, and we had a doctor who spent over 10 years getting it to fit perfectly, so I was sort of surprised we didn’t win that one.” said Michael Rabinowitz, founder and CEO of Le Mystere, whose company won “Best Bridal” this year. “I was pleasantly surprised to win for the bustier. I was in London earlier this year, and we had one of the biggest windows of Harrod’s where they were displaying this one item in the window! It was quite amazing.”

Other winners included John Galliano for “Best Fashion Couture,” Marlies Dekker for “Best Fashion,” Chantelle for “Best Technically Innovative,” and Wacoal for “Best Seamless.”

It doesn’t matter if you love your bra or not, or if your bras are cheap or expensive. Here are some tips to care for them so they’re in a good shape - which means you’re comfortable and happy.

Switch up bras every day
Avoid wearing your bra for two consecutive days. Your body exudes heat and heat makes the Lycra in the bra stretch when it is warm. Wearing your bra for more than one day in a row will cause it to deteriorate faster. Lycra needs at least 24 hours to cool off — so alternating bras each day will go a long way towards good bra care.

Store your bras properly
It is best if you have a dedicated lingerie drawer. If you place lingerie with other clothing items, or toss them into a chest in an unorganized manner, it will cause early wear and tear on your bras. Hooks snaps, and some other clothing items or objects can snare fabric. So it is best if you make room specifically for your fine lingerie. Furthermore, you might want to organize your lingerie collection by type (e.g. all bras in one drawer, all panties in another drawer, etc.) Or you can put matching sets of lingerie together.

Washing bras
First of all, avoid washing your bras in a washing machine, especially top load washing machines. If you can help it, hand wash your lingerie in cold water or have it dry cleaned. For washing you should use a delicate soda-based fabric wash, such as Forever New, Eucalan, or Stergene. It is not recommended to use Woolite. It is also okay to use mild shampoo or hand soap.

Secondly, get a wash bag for washing your intimate apparel. Wash bags cost only about $5 and they allow you to keep your lingerie protected from rubbing sensitive fabrics of your bras against other apparel items while washing. So wash bags keep your lingerie a little bit more protected while washing.

Drying bras
Drying bras in a tumble dryer can damage your bras in many ways: heat and tumbling in a drum damages bra fabric, underwire and cups padding. Besides that, it can result in damaging other clothing and the dryer itself if wires get ripped out of the bra fabric. If you don’t want your bras to get loose their shape early, consider one of the following natural ways to dry your bras:

• Hang dry (aka air dry, line dry)
• Dry by placing them on a towel
• Use a hair dryer to dry your bra if you want it to dry pretty quick
• Use one of the new bra drying devices, such as BraBaby or BraSmart (See below in this blog)
