I Love My Bra - Lingerie news

Hello, Analeis here again with a new and already super cool lingerie brand from France: Flibustine. This brand was started in 2008 and they have one collection, which is gorgeous and somewhat futuristic, and luxurious to say the least. Other lingerie blogs gave this new brand some coverage already here and here, and their web site is pretty implicit about the company and their concept. Meanwhile I am writing to their designers to request more information about this brand as well as their prospects on their products distribution. So far it seems they don’t have distributors, at least in the U.S. (though they are looking for them).

Shame on me, but since I started this lingerie blog I never posted about a U.S. based brand of luxury lingerie called Kiki de Montparnasse that is quite remarkable. Kiki has two boutiques — one in New York on Greene St. and one in Los Angeles on Melrose. Kiki de Montparnasse sells dresses, lingerie, sex toys and other products, but I’ll keep it narrow and talk about their lingerie. It is definitely gorgeous and very expensive. Their bras, for example, are about $200-$300. Thongs and briefs are in the $125-$250 range.

Long time no see, everyone! I am back again with a new collection from Spoylt. I’ve covered Spoylt before. Their latest collection is called Tantalize. It’s pretty but images on Spoylt web site are not that impressive. My favorite item so far is the beige balconette bra and briefs set (second from the bottom) is too small to appreciate. But it does look very pretty.

I don’t have any info on the prices or stockists.

Hello my friends.

I am alive and I am back. I’ve been away for a few months not being able to blog about the topic that I love — luxury lingerie. I will be doing a new post very shortly, I promise, as soon as I figure out how far the lingerie business have moved while I wasn’t around.

Also, I am looking for a fellow blogger. Description of a prospective partner shall be posted very soon too.

My boyfriend told me about this brand a couple days ago — Si Belle. To my embarrassment, I never heard of this brand before. Apparently designer of SiBelle, Sibel Mesta, is of European (well, Eurasian) origin, now residing in NYC. Well, most of haute fashion comes from Europe, who can argue with that. They have a “fashion” gene. And we here in America have a “consumer” gene, right? So anyway, I’d like to share a couple of my favorite pieces from their current lingerie collection (they also have a swimwear collection, but this is not a focus of my blog).

I like most of it, by the way, though I am not a fan of their red and black china doll bra and shorts (detail on this piece is excellent, nevertheless). Courtworth has been one of my favorite brands of luxe French lingerie. It is undoubtedly nice, very nice. But maybe a little bit too expensive. When you pay almost $400 for a bra, it’s got to give you a little more then a feel or exclusiveness and great quality. In the world of cars, for example, the more you pay for a car the more heads it will turn, especially if you buy an exotic such as Lamborghini or Ferrari. Now being the “exotic” of the lingerie market, Courtworth looks a little bit too modest for the amount of money it costs. I’m not saying it needs to be more flashy. But I’ve reviewed a few brands of less expensive lingerie that’s got better looks. Scroll down a couple posts below and you’ll see.

You really never hear about Germany in context of fashion—typically Germany is associated with automotive design and luxury cars more then anything else. Think of Maybachs and Porsches. But now I know they make beautiful lingerie. Valisere is a German brand that I think is quite awesome. I stumbled their web site today. Yesterday a new collection of Dana Pisarra hit the virtual shelves of Nancy Meyer. Dana Pisarra, an Italian designer of fine lingerie, created a number remarkable items such as silk lace camisoles, silk and cotton tanks, with prices ranging from about $90 to $245 for the tops and $55 to $140 for bottoms.

English lingerie brand Fleur T revealed their new Summer 2008 collection, called “Pure white sugar". This is not the edible lingerie you are thinking about!

It’s really cute — I like how it looks so fresh and clean. Though to me it feels more like a Spring collection, not Summer — with it’s subtle green floral pattern. Yes, I think they made it a mistake, it definitely is a Spring collection.
But I’d like to buy it, as long as white sugar, not Sweet-n-low or Splenda. I like brown sugar, and sure I love honey too. Maybe their next collection will be called “Raw avocado honey"?

Tonight I overheard a report on ABC channel about Victoria’s Secret brand slipping sales, which might be caused by VS marketing, which is focused on “sexiness” too much. A few articles on the Web discuss the same topic. “We’ve so much gotten off our heritage… too sexy, and we use the word sexy a lot and really have forgotten the ultra feminine,” said Sharen Turney, chief executive of Victoria’s Secret, “I feel so strongly about us getting back to our heritage and really thinking in terms of ultra feminine and not just the word sexy and becoming much more relevant to our customer.” she added (Source). It’s amusing, indeed, that VS brand hypes up sexiness, obviously simply because it’s a concept that’s popular with the consumer. But in fact there’s not too much sexiness about their lingerie - except Victoria’s Secret Angels. The truth is, though, that when you hire the type of Top models VS hires, it doesn’t really matter what kind of bra or panties you slip on them, it’s all going to look very sexy, don’t you agree? Being quite mediocre, for my liking, Victoria’s Secret merchandise also lacks quality. A lot of their lingerie is made of such material that looks used when it’s still on the store shelves. I realize though that all mass market brands are this way - they put little money into the product and a lot of money into advertising, convincing many to buy.

Truly sexy and feminine brands, though, don’t seem to capitalize on sexiness. Such brands as Courtworth, Carine Glson, I.D. Sarrieri, Eres, Guia La Bruna, and some others, which I mention in this blog quite regularly, produce products that are by far superior to many popular and heavily advertised brands here in the U.S. But I don’t want to be negative - I wish good luck with sales and marketing to Victoria’s Secret, and the like, but I personally will unlikely buy their products again. And it doesn’t matter that they use word “sexy” 75 times in one catalog.

I’m really excited about new I.D. Sarrieri collection coming to stores, such as Nancy Meyer, because I.D. Sarrieri is in my Top 5 most favorite lingerie brands. It’s so romantic and beautiful, and it radiates luxury and class. Just one look tells you it’s something different, and it’s not for everyone. Plus it’s got great quality. But you pay for all of it, of course. In the new collection the prices range from $600 - $300 for a bodysuits and chemises, to $315 - $140 for bras, to $85 and up for strings and bikinis.

Italian fine lingerie brand La Perla just rolled out their new website. It’s not much different from the previous version, but at least we know La Perla is moving forward.

La Perla is a great brand for an educated shopper who can afford to pay extra for less hype and more design and quality (unlike most of the American brands, such as Victoria’s Secret).

New Eres collection is out and it is really beautiful.

I really liked Vagin Pouvoir lingerie. But apparently they quited sometime last Autumn. At first I thought that hijacked their web site http://www.vaginpouvoir.com. But that could not have taken too long to fix. I called one of their clients and they confirmed that Vagin Pouvoir had just called it quits for some reason… That’s so sad.
